Adult CPR

LAS VEGAS CPR CERTIFICATION: ADULTS

Cardiac arrest in infants is not usually from a heart problem, but rather from respiratory arrest. The most common causes include respiratory illness, SIDS, choking, or other injury. When CPR is started immediately, a rescuer may be able to restore normal breathing without the use of an AED.

With regard to CPR, an adult is defined as a person who has signs of puberty.

ADULT CPR PROCEDURE:

Check and Call:

  • Tap the victims shoulder and shout.
  • If victim does not respond, yell for help. Send someone to call 911 and send another person to get an AED.
  • Scan for breathing for 10 seconds.

Provide Compressions:

  • Position the adult victim face up on a firm, flat surface.
  • Move clothing out of the way.
  • Place your hands in the center of the victim’s chest.
  • Compress chest 30 times (approximately 2″ in depth).

Open Airway & Breath:

  • Tilt the head back and lift the chin to open the victim’s airway.
  • Pinch the victim’s nose (you can also apply a face guard).
  • Give 2 regular breaths for 1 second each breath.
  • Watch for chest to rise.
  • Resume compressions.

Resume CPR:

  • Continue cycles of CPR until professional help has arrived.
  • Use an AED if available.
